Comprehensive Detoxification Program

Dr. Nafysa Parpia offers a comprehensive detoxification program at GMA. The detoxification program takes place in two distinct phases. While there will be a general protocol, this will be highly tailored to each individual’s needs, lab values and sensitivities. All patients will be closely monitored during the detoxification process.

Phase One

The Role of Dysbiosis and Chronic Infections on Cognitive and Psychological Health

Phase Two

Phase Two Supportive Therapies

Phase One

The first phase includes supporting and cleansing the gastrointestinal tract, as well as addressing oxidative stress at the cellular level. This first phase is addressed through diet and some specific nutrients; it is a preparation for the stronger detoxification which takes place next. Should a patient have dysbiosis or parasites, these may need to be cleared with specific protocols before beginning the first phase of detoxification.

Clinical Nutrition

Clinical nutrition is fundamental to treat or prevent any health concern. Food creates the building blocks for every bodily function. Each nutrient we absorb has an important biological role, and too much or too little of these nutrients contributes to various health conditions. Clinical nutrition uses nutrients from a nutrition- or disease-specific diet to prevent and treat a multitude of health concerns.

Phase Two

The second phase of detoxification is more intensive, and involves major organs and tissues where toxins and heavy metals are typically stored, or which release stored toxins during therapy. This phase often includes chelation therapy, depending on patients’ needs as seen in their labs, as well as other forms of detoxification based on patient history of chemical exposure, toxicity labs, and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. Patients’ individual genetics are also assessed and those that affect detoxification are taken into consideration.

Phase Two of detoxification will include intravenous nutrient therapies, injection therapies, oral nutrients, colonics and sauna. Patients may notice that during Phase 2, there naturally comes about an emotional letting go. This, too, is a part of detoxification, and will be addressed with each patient individually through forms of mind-body medicine offered at Gordon Medical.

Heavy Metal Chelation (Also Mercury Chelation and Chelation Therapy)

Heavy metals-lead, mercury, and cadmium-bind tightly to tissues and organs. To remove them, oral or intravenous chelation agents are used. A chelating agent or chelator is simply a natural or man-made molecule that tightly binds to a heavy metal and then is excreted in the urine or feces.

Man-made chelators include DMSA, DMPS and EDTA, while natural chelators include chlorella, cilantro, garlic, sulfur-containing amino acids and others. EDTA chelation therapy has also been used to treat cardiovascular disease for more than 30 years.

Injection Therapy

GMA uses a wide variety of injectable treatments, including nutrients, antibiotic or other antimicrobials, and anti-inflammatory and other treatments specific for your care. We also offer training in home injections for those who are unable to come into the office for their injections.

IV Nutritional And Chelation Therapies

IV therapies are indicated for numerous reasons, including, but not limited to: fluid and electrolyte replacement, antibiotic, antimicrobial, antioxidant, detoxification, and/or pain relief.

IV therapies are fast acting due to the direct introduction into the bloodstream. IV medications do not have to undergo digestive metabolism and therefore, some medications may be given at higher doses. They can also be a good option for those who are unable to take medications or nutrients by other routes (including oral, rectal, and topical routes).

Detox Therapies

Detoxification is a broad topic, and includes any therapy that helps eliminate toxins, including heavy metals, persistent organic pollutants, waste products from digestion and other types of toxins. Therapies can include anything from nutritional support, IV therapy, colonics, and homeopathics, among many other types of treatments.

Far Infrared Sauna

General sauna concept is to heat the body by several degrees. The body attempts to reduce the temperature by relaxing blood vessels, driving blood to the surface, and by sweating. This has the effect of increasing circulation, and allowing detoxification through the skin. Repeated sauna use increases the efficiency of sweating.

FIR wavelength is too long to be perceived by the eyes, however, the body experiences its energy as a gentle radiant heat which can penetrate up to 1.5 inches (almost 4 cm) beneath the skin. FIR sauna is able to provide beneficial effects at much lower temperatures (usually 90F-130F) than regular sauna.
